In olden days, every festive dish was incomplete without millets in it, especially in South India. Benefits of millets were so great that our ancestors decided to make it part of daily diet. Easily grown with fewer amounts of Water and little agricultural care, millets are known to be at least 10 times healthier then rice and wheat.
Did you know Millets are grown in entire country, but are famous with different names? For e.g. Barnyard millet (English) is known as Sanwa (Hindi), Oodhalu (Kannada), Udhalu (Telgu) and Kuthiraivally (Tamil). There are nearly 10 different types of millets which are classified as Positive millets or neutral millets on the basis of amount of fiber contents in it. More the fiber content, more the positive grain it is.
Siri Dhanya is a combination of positive millets only. It contains Barnyard, Kodo, Little, Foxtail and Browntop Millets.
